When Was First Labor Day Celebrated?

As we know that people celebrate Labor Day every year. But now the question is that when was first Labor Day celebrated? Well, the first Labor Day was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City. People celebrated this day according to the Central Labor Union plans.

In addition to that, the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday. This decision took place in 1884. Whereas the Central Labor Union influenced other similar organizations to follow the example of the New York. This Union them to celebrate a “workingmen’s holiday” on that date. As the Labor organizations grew the idea of the Labor Day became popular. As a result, many industrial centers celebrated this day in 1885.

Most importantly first state bill was introduced into the New York legislature, but the first law was passed by Oregon on February 21, 1887. So, as a result, other states adopted the holiday in the honor of the workers. Congress made the first Monday of September as the legal holiday. This act was passed on 28th June 1884.
